Maybe keep a stick with you to beat them in case they approach to bite. Normally they don't bite, its just a nature of stray dogs to bark. Its difficult to identify a dog with rabies.

Sometimes the dogs are just able to clip the slide at the right angle and undo the lock on accident. Other dogs are smart, and quickly learn how to do it.Depending on your cage/crate, invest in a carabeaner. It's a simple little product that will slip through the hole and not allow the dog to escape.
